Thanks, Susan. I'd love to see what possibilities your InMap sparks in you. You're already a maven of civic insight. I can't wait to see what you do next!

I love seeing your map and thinking about the possibilities of how you can link the creative artists and people in touch with movement and soul with the people charged with the formal structures of public life. Thanks for the stimulation!

My pleasure. I really enjoyed the pace and the format of the conference and mentioned that in the survey. Please thank Darian again for sharing his granola bar when I was having a moment of low-blood sugar weakness.

Thanks for the great write-up! Glad you could join us. Be sure to let us know via our survey what was helpful and what was not. We are planning an Oakland event and would definitely incorporate suggestions/feedback.

The participant who said "every community should do this" summed it up perfectly -what better way to foster our democracy than having members of every community participating in the conversations that lead to the decisions that affect our lives. Kudos to the city managers who brought their communities into this process.

Having recently moved back to NY after living in California for over 30 years, I have a renewed appreciation for California's "direct democracy". Yes, it sometimes took a long time to prepare and to actually vote in California and, yes, we sometimes laughed about the inordinate number of propositions confronting us each election day. But when I left the voting booth, I always felt like I had a real effect on what would be happening on a state and local level. I miss that feeling. I love how you are celebrating and would just like to suggest that we pause to think about the many women throughout the world who still do not enjoy the privilege of voting and how we can support them to obtain it.

Grateful to those courageous women (100 years ago) who fought for our right to participate. I'm also aware that the women in Saudia Arabia were only JUST (in the last week?) given the opportunity to vote.

Because the #1 fear people have is speaking in public (it ranks ahead of death), we should not be surprised that few people outside of those who are already familiar with the process choose to take part in council meetings and hearings. Yes, we have partner organizations who train people to speak out - but I think it's equally important to create more community-friendly venues for hearing the public voice. And for helping community members see their role in the public issues that affect us all.
